Hamish organised a superb snow trip for my young family last year. Mt Buller is the closest full-scale Alpine resort to Melbourne, offering a great range of terrain options. You can go with a group of beginners and enjoy mayhem of Bourke St, or tackle the Summit area with some world class black and double black areas. Little Buller Spur and Wombat Run are great Blues for a longer cruise.
A hot chocolate at Tirol Cafe on the slopes will make you think you have been transported to Austria! Feeling hungry? Try a Flame Grilled burger or the famous wedges from The Burger Haus. Try Off-Piste Bar or Snow Pony to keep the apres vibe going after dark!
For a gourmet dining experience try Kaptans Restaurant at Hotel Pension Grimus for traditional European ambience and delicious regional fare like Buxton Trout and Yarra Valley venison. Drakes Restaurant at Duck Inn is your food and wine destination at Mt Buller. Moroccan Lamb, great Steak and of course, Duck. All matched with great regional wines.
